Innovation backlog is dead, long live the innovation backlog…
The old CoE app for tracking business value was fantastic in intent, but the user experience was based on old controls and was, fair to say, an underwhelming user experience.
Enter the next generation of innovation backlog-type apps: Business Value Toolkit. This is really worth a read: https://lnkd.in/gNh_Etz2
Two reasons I love this.
1. Measure existing value – we’re working with a client to stand up governance – the first step being understanding what’s going on by gathering an inventory of all existing apps and flows. There are hundreds, with quite a few running often, which is quite common in companies with hundreds employees. This toolkit allows the admin team to ask makers what *value* they get – how many minutes a day do they save and how critical is the app in their workflows.
2. Clarifying a backlog from the ground up – The toolkit extends its capabilities to evaluate proposed ideas, assessing the potential impact of new ideas on strategic goals. We are working with another client to set these strategic goals aligned to business strategy. They have so much transformation work to do, but where to start? A tool like this will help them align the many ideas the org has into a framework for prioritisation. Additionally, the toolkit includes a feature that checks for similar ideas or apps.
The Business Value Toolkit is the rubber hitting the road; Power Platform can either be implemented half-heartedly building pet-projects or it can truly revolutionise operations. Having a framework for tracking value is how you achieve the latter.
