Gather round for a story. Once upon a time, there was a business that had a problem ⚡
The business team (not IT) had a bright tech-savvy person who solved the problem with a Power App and a few tables. They didn’t know exactly what they were doing, but the problem was fixed, and the team was happy.
Not only this, the team had a pipeline of work to do and asked for some help from the IT team.
IT were not happy!
“How dare they! Amateurs. We won’t support this anarchy! You’re on your own. And we’re locking this down so nobody else can repeat this insolence.”
They knew innovation is best handed out centrally, by those that know best. Woe be tide any business team that takes initiative to solve gaps. Innovation needs to be planned extensively and perfectly executed every time.
Then, that business was dragged along by the market, productivity fell and eventually had to adopt innovations developed elsewhere.

Let’s write a different story 📖
Once upon a time, there was a business that had a problem.
The business team (not IT) had a bright tech-savvy person who the problem with a Power App and a few tables. They didn’t know exactly what they were doing, but the problem was fixed, and the team was happy.
The IT Innovation Group saw that a new app had been created and was used a lot, and reached out to see if they can help. They supported the new app maker by letting them know the best practices to follow – even providing recorded training materials for them, and dedicated Dev and Prod environments.
“This app has really transformed how that team delivers on our company’s value proposition. Let’s showcase this as examples of how we could promote this way of thinking across the company!”
They even allocated a Business Analyst to the team to make sure that a pipeline of work was developed using the company’s standards on measuring business value.
IT and the exec team knew that a business is just thousands of processes, all coming together to make value for their clients. Innovation is a team sport, and it’s exciting for everyone in our company to feel like they make a difference.
That business led the market, productivity went through the roof and eventually its innovations became the industry standard.
